Crocodile Club closes its doors

What is the Crocodile Club, most of you are asking?  It’s only the Seattle music club that helped spawn the whole “grunge” music scene in Seattle – and then nationwide – in the early 1990’s.  Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam…you name ‘em, they played there.  Later, when grunge wasn’t the big thing any more, it was bands like Modest Mouse and Death Cab For Cutie using the place for a springboard.  Even established bands stopped in on their tours.  It’s a local icon, and yesterday it abruptly closed down.  I knew business wasn’t gangbusters lately, but there was no indication they were going to shut their doors right this very minute.  They have shows booked through April (heck, they have a show booked for tonight), and everything seemed business as usual just last week (I work nearby and walk past it often).  But, read it and weep:

At least we have our memories.  And pictures.
