Andy: thanks for the sage advice, I'll keep it in mind. It'll be hard to chink my armor, as I'm a long-time PC user, and I'm sure I will continue to be one to some extent (even if it's only through Boot Camp or Parallels). So, not only am I not an advocate or computer religious type, I know the PC inside and out, so I know whereof I speak. :) Having said that, I'm all about objective comparison and contrast, and where I know the PC falls flat in comparison, I'm not going to mince words.

Tedious: thanks for the tips, I will check all that out. I have been to VersionTracker before, it's an excellent resource.

Byron, Joe, Chalk: the Dell consistently receives excellent reviews, including many reviews that compare it favorably to the Apple Cinema display, and is more than $500 cheaper. Note that I also bought four 1TB hard drives and another stick of memory, so the total financial outlay on this system (actually, these two systems) is nothing to sneeze at. Anywhere I can save $500 and not sacrifice quality, I'm going to take it. 'Nuff said.

Squidly: you continue to be my go-to man when it comes to my conversion. Thanks for all your advice and help!

Rusty: thanks for the tip, that looks like a great website! I'm in Seattle, in Washington state, and I may look up a local users group around here sooner or later.

Thanks all for reading! Keep coming back, I plan to keep posting my impressions as I continue delving into the brave new world of Mac.

FYI

macosxhints.com - premier Mac tips site and their forums are the best when it comes to troubleshooting, lots of folk of all vocations/avocations hang out and help each other

don't know where you are at but ehmac.ca is a Canadian Mac community that does pretty well in the help and tips department also.

cheers

Chalk'N'Cheese: Cinema Displays don't have built in Cameras. That's an iMac/Macbook thing.

The Dell monitor will be more than sufficient. It' got better inputs, better brightness controls, and it's about EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS CHEAPER.

So...yeah.

And btw, I'm a 30 inch Cinema Display owner.

"My suggestion, don’t even open the Dell monitor. Send it back. Get a Cinema display. Pay the money, trust me."

Especially if accurate color is important to you. Apple monitors are SWOP certified.
