Christmas Quiz…
I was tasked with filling out this quiz by my friend Bill (aka Squidly), whom I must thank for spurring me to finally do an update. Here are my answers:
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Let’s face it: bags are a little less fun, but so much less messy.
2. Real tree or Artificial? Artificial (which Jen and I finally invested in last year). Saves trees, and saves my sanity from having to select, cut, and water a live one that slowly dies and dries up every damn year despite all our best efforts.
3. When do you put up the tree? This year, we got it up right after Thanksgiving. Too early? Yeah, maybe. But it sure has been nice enjoying it all month, rather than waiting until the last week.
4. When do you take the tree down? I’m sure I’ll wait until after New Year’s
5. Do you like egg nog? No, it’s really gross. I’m sure it goes perfectly with its kissing cousin, fruitcake.
6. Favorite gift received as a child? Classic Star Wars toys.
7. Do you have a nativity scene? No. Why, was Santa born there?
8. Hardest person to buy for? My dad, who has everything already. Each year, he can count on a new bottle of booze and a picture of the kids.
9. Easiest to buy for? The kids. There’s more stuff I’d like to get them than I can actually afford.
10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail. E-mail Christmas “cards” are cheesy.
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Horrible Christmas “clothes” from Hungarian grandmother. I’ll see if I can find some pictures to post.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? It’s a Wonderful Life, which is actually much darker than most people give it credit for. Jimmy Stewart for the win.
13. Where is question 13? I don’t know, Squid didn’t send it to me.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? I’m sure I have, though I can’t remember exactly when.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? My wife’s cookies. I’ll try to post some pictures and recipes soon.
16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Clear, but honestly, I’d prefer colored.
17. Favorite Christmas song? “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”, sung by the incomparable Judy Garland in the great Meet Me in St. Louis. Holiday cheer and melancholy make for a pretty heady mix. (The restored DVD comes highly recommended.)

Note to professionals: if your name isn’t Judy Garland, you probably shouldn’t sing this song. They call it the “definitive version” for a reason.
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Stay home or travel locally.
19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeers? I have kids, of course I can. :-)
20. This question is also missing!
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Both – family and friends after Christmas Eve dinner, Santa on Christmas morning.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? The way the area around our local mall turns into a free-for-all for every inconsiderate ”driver” (I use the term loosely) within a hundred mile radius to come and conspicuously demonstrate their prolific idiocy to the rest of us. I just choose to stay away after November 15 every year.
23. Favorite ornament theme or color? Snowmen.
24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? Ham and mashed potatoes.
25. What do you want for Christmas this year? Come and see right here.
