Go Seahawks!
The Seattle Seahawks beat the Washington Redskins 35-14 on Saturday, marking the third year in a row the Seahawks have won a playoff game. If you know anything about Seattle Seahawks history, this is truly momentous, and another signal (along with the fourth consecutive division championship, the fifth straight trip to the playoffs and another double-digit winning season) that the Seahawks have, for the first time in their history, hit bona-fide elite status. Still not convinced? I’m not the only one who thinks so:
Seahawks: This franchise has arrived
The Seahawks, for much of their 32 years, lacked gravitas. They were a national afterthought and rarely contended. There were magical flashes, of course — 1983 and 1984 come to mind — but success never lingered.
They won double-digit regular-season games just twice in their first 27 years. They entered the 2005 playoffs owning just three playoff victories and none since 1984.
After whipping Washington 35-14 Saturday, however, they’ve now won at least one playoff game three consecutive seasons and played in a Super Bowl.
They’ve also posted double-digit victories in three of the past five seasons, won four consecutive division titles and managed to post a winning record five consecutive years.
Know how many other teams have earned winning records at least five consecutive years?
Two: New England (seven consecutive) and Indianapolis (six).
The Patriots. The Colts. The Seahawks.
Folks, this franchise has arrived.
Indeed they have. Now that’s what I call perspective.
This Saturday we get to travel to cold and unfriendly Lambaeu Field to face the Green Bay Packers, which is about as tough a game as it gets. If the Seahawks can get past the Packers, anything is possible, even another visit to the Super Bowl. But I agree with Mr. Miller any which way – success is at hand, win or lose this weekend. Here’s hoping…

I really agree with you about the Seahawks’ arrival as an NFL powerhouse. Mike Holmgren is a great coach, as we in Wisconsin well know. It’s been an interesting trade off … you got Mike, and we got Ted Thompson, who is obviously proving himself big-time in Green Bay.
Good game coming up on Sunday. I’ll be sitting in the not so cold confines of Lambeau … the temperature here yesterday was 50, although the forecast calls for some falling temps and snow.
