30 classic PC games that still rule…

Good article today at Amog, titled Ready Your Shift Key:  30 Classic PC Games That Still Rule.  The first 4 (actually 8, since each of the top 4 consists of the original and its sequel) are favorites of mine, and I would have shifted Half-Life up to the top.  But minor preferences aside, this is a great list.  There are a few games here that I never got around to.  I’d like to say that I will at some point, but I find that usually when I try to get into an older game that I’ve never played before, it’s often difficult to appreciate it in the context of its time.  Classic games really work best if you originally played them upon their first release.  I could easily understand if a young Half-Life 2 player tried Half-Life today and found that it just didn’t take.  Still, many of these games are found dirt-cheap or even free these days, so I may try to go back and give some of them a whirl anyway.
